Black not knocking out in Adobe InDesign
In printing, an overprint occurs when one color is printed on top of another, creating a combined color. A knockout, on the other hand, is when one color is intentionally left out to allow the underlying color to show through.
One place to check is your Attributes palette.
Uncheck Overprint fill.
You can find the palette under Window – Output – Attributes.
If it still overprinting there is another setting to check in your preferences settings.
In your preference settings, navigate to the appearance of black setting.
Uncheck Overprint [Black] Swatch at 100%. This now should fix the overprint and now knockout.
