Straight to Plate – way most plates are made to go on an offset printing press. #printing #printingpress #straighttoplate
Straight to Plate
Before straight to plate, you had to make your own plate in a dark room and then strip and plate making.
Now you just make the pdf and then drop it to the plate making software. Once there it sends it to the plate maker attached to a computer.
It burns it almost like the film plate makers did. Once this is burned, it is read for the press.
At the print shop I work for we use the PlateRite 4300S.
One thing I noticed with the PDFs is … on the computer you made it on the gripper edge of the pdf is the top of screen.
While in the plate making software we use, when we go to roam, the preview should do the gripper edge on the left.
What’s the gripper edge?
It is the edge where the printing press grabs it to print.
